Abstract

THE ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCES OF PT. WIKA INTRADE USING BALANCE SCORECARD METHOD Nugroho Yulianto The measurement of business performance is very useful to determine whether both the aims and targets of business activities have been achieved for a certain period of time. A number of measurement methods can be used to measure a company's performance, e.g.: ratio analysis, comparative analysis, or activity analysis upon its financial reports. Other measurement such as bench marks, trends, and growth might be adopted as a partial analysis. Measurement merely based on the financial point of view, i.e., the financial report and its analysis is not adequate enough to satisfy the needs of the concerned parties because of their different goals and targets. In addition, the approach will not be able to face the business challenge which is becoming more and more complicated in the future. This thesis discusses and analyses the performance of PT.Wika Intrade using balance scorecard method of measurement. Viewing the business activities in the financial, customers, internal business processes, as well as learning and growth points of view are the main keys under this method. All the four perspectives in this balance scorecard have cause-effect relationship. Financial perspective shows the past condition conditions of the company, while the other three represent the current situation. The company may utilize this method as a guidance to measure the business performance and use it as a direction to achieve both the aims and targets of the company. Using the balance scorecard, the performance of PT. Wika Intrade measured from April until June 2003: on the financial perspective are found to be 374.2, 371.9 and 391.4; on the customers perspective is 75 from; on the business process internal perspective are 242.3, 182.1 and 225.9; and on the learning and growth are 166.4, 171,4 and 151.0 for the same period of time. In general, total score for four perspectives are 857.8, 800.3 and 843.3 from April until June 2003. These figures show that the overall performance of PT.Wika Intrade is a slightly higher 800 points. The minimum standard score that has to be achieved by a state owned company. Based on this finding, it is suggested that the management of PT. Wika Intrade design and implement the appropriate work-plan in every functions in the organization to increase the performance. It is also suggested that the target score to be achieved for the next period should be increase to at least 875, or 900 points scale. The on going implementation of balance scorecard method by PT. Wika Intrade (calledWin scorecard) is considered to be the best way to improve the company's performances, since PT. Wika Intrade has four business units with a different business characteristic. Using the balance scorecard method, each unit would be able to select the suitable and appropriate tools of measurements
