Abstract

This research has the objectives on 1) Determining the condition of management control on PT MHP’s resources, the recent position of PT MHP from the side of plant-forestry industry market attraction, and the strength of PT MHP’s plant-forestry industry, 2) Determining PT MHP’s core-competence and division with the highest core-competence capability, and 3) Determining the readiest division of PT MHP to be set up as a Strategic Business Unit. Quantitative methods used in this research are Product Life Cycle Analysis, GE Matrix, Rentang Kriteria Analysis, and Exponential Comparison Method. Whereas the research’s outputs are 1) According to respondents, PT MHP is one of the biggest plant-forestry industry in Indonesia, and able to control its resources management in a good way. Even so, the respondents said that PT MHP still needs Strategic Business Unit in making a more effective company’s management. Besides that, it can be indicated that plant-forestry industrial products have a high market attraction/competition and PT MHP has a good internal-strength in facing that competition. 2) PT MHP’s core competitions include the partnership program with the community around the company (a good community development program), good technique of civiculture, good capability of harvesting system (TPTP/Tebang Pasti Tanam Pasti), research & development personnel’s management skill and competency, the partnership program with the external parties (home and host industries) and commitment to the external parties (consumers, suppliers, etc.). Whereas, the rank of divisions with a core competency capability is harvesting, transportation, planting, general & community development, logistics, research & development, and construction & road. 3) The rank of the readiest divisions to be developed as Strategic Business Unit is transportation, research & development, construction & road, general and community development, service, logistics, and human resources.
