Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the opinion of agricultural extension workers on performance evaluation, the current usage and the wishes of the agricultural extension workers. This study is also intended as a recommendation for performance evaluation and the future use of such evaluation result, which is perceived as better than the present evaluation for the agricultural extension workers. The method applied in this study is descriptive research method by case study approach with 59 respondents which are taken through a census. Processing data is carried out using range criteria test, quadrant analysis with Kartesius diagram, and statistic test of Mann Whitney and Kruskall Wallis. The result of this study shows that the agricultural extension workers do not agree on such performance evaluation, particularly on the aspects of sensitivity and practicability, while for the aspects of reliability and acceptability are still in doubt. And only relevancy aspect can be received by the respondents. The result of current evaluation performance has not been used yet for adjustment of compensation, arrangement of education and training programs, and career development. While recognizing the advantage and shortage are also still in doubt. Moreover, the agricultural extension workers wish that the whole aspects of performance evaluation can be applied properly. But the priority in this study is that the evaluation relevancy target is arranged jointly by upper managements and staffs/workers. While the evaluation it self is carried out by a team. They also wish that the result of such performance evaluation can be used for career development. Furthermore, there is no significant difference on the attitude of respondent groups based on gender, age, job experience, education, and position, towards the current evaluation and their wishes. The main priority of performance evaluation recommended is sensitivity aspect and its use for career development.
