Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing the development of pineapple agribusiness through capital strengthening, to formulate alternative strategy, and to make priority strategy on the development of pineapple agribusiness through capital strengthening in Karimun Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province in the future. This study was carried out through case study method, by applying purposive sampling method. Data were analyzed by using System Analysis and AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process). The result of the system analysis shows that the development of pineapple agribusiness through capital strengthening in Karimun Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province in Fiscal Year of 2003 had not been able to increase the income of pineaple farmers. This conclusion was stated by mayority of pineapple farmers (71%) who state that the yield obtained has not been meeting yet with their expectation properly. It has also due to the low rate of pineapple price obtained by the farmers, namely it was just Rp 450/kg. Based on the priority strategy selected by applying AHP method, then, there can be obtained several priority elements in developing pineapple agribusiness through capital strengthening in Karimun Regency, Kepulauan Riau Province, and they are covering several points as follows: (a) the main determinant factor is government policy in agricultural development; (b) the main actor is the government at regency level; (c) the main purpose to be achieved is increasing the income of farmers; and (d) the main strategy as priority alternative is capital strengthening in a partnership system.
