Abstract

This study is conducted to analyses the efficiency level of fishery marketing system in the Region of Fish Market Base of Muara Baru using facilities and infrastructures built by the government which can provide a proper income to the fishermen of concerned region. In this regard, the main problem to be studied is the involvement of marketing bodies in marketing the products quickly and efficiently. Considering that the fish is a vulnerable commodity, like other agricultural commodities, the fishermen as the producers, then, have a weak position and lower bargaining power in the marketplace, and hence, it makes the market structures compete imperfectly. Moreover, this study is intended to know the efficiency level of fishery marketing system based on the governmental policy in providing proper facilities for the purposes, such as: the place for fishermen port, the place for fishery auction, and the center for fishery marketing, which all can provide a proper benefit for the fishermen by selling their products through the marketing system operated in the Region of Fish Market Base of Muara Baru. Analyses of efficiency on fishery marketing system in the Region of Fish Market Base of Muara Baru have been conducted through market structure approach, market conducr, and the market performance. Generally, marketing bodies involved in marketing system in the Region of Fish Market Base of Muara Baru are the fishermen themselves, fish wholesalers and retailers. And based on the study result, the system of fishery marketing in the Region of Fish Market Base of Muara Baru through market structure approach, market behavior, and market performance; it can be said, then, that the whole aspects tend to operate inefficiently.
