Abstract

PT. Bank KIT is one of the state-owned enterprises with the largest assets in Indonesia. The achievement is supported by all workers whose number grew significantly in the past five years, in which up to this time the number has exceeded 120 thousand people. The amount is dominated by generation Y workers (workers with an age range of 20-35 years) as much as 84 per cent. In this approach, the emphasis is on improving the labor productivity, especially generation Y workers because the amount that dominates, as well as being the candidate for replacement of top management in the period of 5-10 years to come. In connection with efforts to increase labor productivity, it is necessary to do research on the dominant characteristics and motivational factors of generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT, to know their wishes in particular related to the job. Under these conditions, this study aimed to analyze the general characteristics of generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT, to analyze the productivity of generation Y workers in PT. Bank KIT, to analyze the factors that influence the motivation of Generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT, and formulate management strategies generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT. Data collection methods used to answer the research goals is through focus group discussions with 20 people as the representative of generation Y workers, random questionnaires to 154 respondents from the generation Y workers, as well as in depth interviews with three expert in human resources at PT. Bank KIT. Data were analyzed in three stages: theoretical analysis, situational analysis using Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), and policy analysis using Analytical Network Process (ANP). The results showed that the conclusion of FGD shows that the dominant characteristic of generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT namely, have a closeness with the technology to support the work, have an open communication style, desire a fair assessment and recognition for the work performance, opportunities for self-development and providing authority, leader competencies, and worklife balance. Based on analysis of the CFA be concluded that all the variables of motivation namely recognition of achievement, self-development, responsibility and authority, competence leader, salaries and benefits, and worklife balance are valid and significant as a motivational factor for generation Y workers at PT. Bank KIT. The most significant motivating factor was worklife balance and the motivation factor with lowest significance is the responsibility and authority. Based on the results of policy analysis with human resources experts in PT. Bank KIT. using ANP, it was concluded that the priority strategy to manage the generation Y in PT. Bank KIT is (1) the characteristic aspects of Generation Y; (2) external environmental factors; (3) the selection process / the recruitment, retention and career management of human resources; (4) corporate culture.
