Abstract

Medical students as a candidate for medical doctor are expected to have good academic achievement as their provision for continuing education in professional program. Self directed learning readiness (SDLR) is also one of the provisions that must be owned by students either in following the education on medical undergraduate programs and in the program of the profession of doctors who apply learning methods that require the activeness and independence of students in learning. This study aimed to analyze the influence of student characteristics, internal factors and external factors on self directed learning readiness and academic achievement, and to analyze the influence of self directed learning readiness on academic achievement of students of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tadulako. This study is carried out by using a census method of the fourth years students of medical program of Tadulako University. Analysis of the data used includes descriptive analysis with criteria range and analysis of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) approach Partial Least Square (PLS). Exogenous latent variables in this study include student characteristics, internal factors and external factors, whereas endogenous latent variables include self-directed learning readiness and academic achievement. The results showed that based on the results of data analysis using SEM, self directed learning readiness and academic achievement of the fourth year students of medical program of Tadulako University influenced by students characteristics and internal factors. Students characteristics has negative affect significantly to self directed learning readiness is 0.176 with t-statistics 4.375 (greater than t-table 1.96) and significant positive effect on academic achievement is 0.150 with t-statistics 3,260. Internal factors have a significant positive effect on self directed learning readiness and academic achievement is 0.725 and 0.217 respectively with t-statistics 19,994 and 2,318 respectively. The results also showed that external factors did not effect on self directed learning readiness and academic achievement and self directed learning readiness has no effect on academic achievement.
