Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of attitudes and knowledge on interest in caring for pets. As well as how the influence of attitudes, lifestyle and knowledge of pet care costs in Jakarta. Measurement of attitudes towards interest is carried out using the Theory of Planned Behavior and SEM (Structural Equation Modeling) analysis. Measurement of knowledge of interest is done by chi square analysis. Measurement of attitudes, lifestyle and knowledge of costs using regression analysis with SPSS. Data collection techniques using survey methods and sampling were conducted at several animal clinics in Jakarta. The study was conducted for 3 months in July - September 2017. The number of samples obtained in this study 178 respondents, selected by convenience sampling method using questionnaires and direct interviews. Data collected includes consumer identity data, which includes demography, gender, marital status, ethnicity, age, education status, type of work and amount of expenditure. Other data collected includes the reasons for keeping pets, the type of pets, the number of pets, the consumer's knowledge of pet care and costs for the care of the pets. The results showed that respondents who had pets in Jakarta were mostly found in North Jakarta. The average pet owner’s is a woman, married status, Chinese ethinicity and aged 25 - 35 years. Education status is bachelor degree, and has a job as an entrepreneur, with monthly expenditure of 5 - 10 million. The average maintenance costs for caring one dog more than Rp. 10 million per year, while caring one cat requires almost Rp. 5 million per year. Based on SEM analysis on the interest in caring for pets, shows that the relationship between ATB (Attitude Toward Behavior) and PBC (Perceived Behavioral Control) with BI (Behavioral Intention) is significant, while the relationship between SN (Subjective Norm) and Intention is not significant. The result of chi-square analysis between knowledge of the owner and interest can be seen that the value of Asymp sig (0.542)> alpha 0.05, then H0 is accepted, meaning that there is no relationship between knowledge and interest in caring pets. Measurement of attitudes, lifestyle and knowledge with multiple regression analysis using SPSS shows the results that attitudes and lifestyles have a significant effect on costs, while knowledge has no significant effect on costs.
