Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify factors that need attention, to set appropriate financing schern, as well as, strategy for the development of retail loan. Retail loan is defined as financing facility provided to small and medium business enterprises as well as to individuals with the maximum loan size of up to Rp 5 billion. All data necessary for this study have been collected from the Retail Loan Divison at Bank "6: from questionnaires and interviews with credit officers at several Regional Offices, Branches and the Head Office. Data analysis, using the IFE-EFE matrix, has been conducted to study the external and internal factors affecting the development of retail loan. I-E Matrix is used to identify the relative positioning of retail business unit, while GE Matrix is used to study each product positioning being analyzed. Based on I-E Matrix analysis, retail business unit is located at quadrant V which is "Growth and Built". Appropriate strategy for this position, accordingly, is to execute market penetration and product development. Based on GE Matrix analysis, KUK, non KUK and Kretap products are positioned for "Growth and Investment: hence the appropriate strategy is to maximize their growth. Kresun, on the other hand, is located on the quadrant that requires selective growth. The recommended strategy, accordingly, includes. selective growth, aggressive investment and position maintenance.
