Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze both external and internal factors affecting competitive position of jihan swalayan . By analyzing the factors mentioned above, the strengths, the weakness the oppurtonities and the threats as well as the characteristics o f the competition can be obtained and used to formulae and develop strategy on how to develop and advance the business. The research methodology used is based on the descriptive approach in the form of a case study. The data source used is 'primary data" obtained via observation, questionnaires, interview with the retail experts, interview with Jihan Swalayarr's management, employees as well as customers. In addition to that, the secondary data from various related publications are also used. To achieve those objectives,. discussion will be analyzed performed using EFAS (External Strategic Factor Summary), IFAS (Internal Strategic Factor Summary), SI-EFAS (Sintesis Strategic Internal-External Factor Summary) Matrix and SWOT Matrix. The result of this study showed that Jihan Swalayan needs seven strategies to be later implemented. They are empowerment Strategy, Positioning Strategy. Promotion Strategy, Expansion Strategy, Information Management System and Computerization Strategy, Focusing Strategy and Alliance Strategy. General Requitrement is needed so that the whole strategies can be implemented well in active participation among all divisions within Jihan Swalayan. Management needs to give attention and support for implementation of the whole development strategies especially those related to funding. Management would require significant additional funding especially when image improvement is done via outlet expansion and increase the number of new outlets.
